ART/HAB is a space age habitat created to explore the idea of what is the essence of a “habitat.” Housed in three geodesic domes, the installation hypothesizes how explorers and scientists would adapt their new living space to survive in an extraterrestrial environment.
Just as space exploration is a joint effort amongst nations, each HAB represents a different “explorers” main area of focus. In HAB 1, Lamb presents elements from the New Institute of Historical Cosmological Exploration’s Project ARTEMIS containing objects from the supposed mission to Asteroid Artemis β. In the remaining two HAB’s, Kim and Long each examine how these habitats need to be normalized, either by the creature comforts of home that keep us connected in an other- worldly environment, or by the food cultivation that is necessary to ensure survival.
